There are paid and free parking lots in the island. It can be a challenging task to find a space in parking lots for free, especially at popular tourist season. However there are virtually no such problems with paid parking lots. To pay a parking space, you need to use a special pay machine. A parking hour cost depends on the location of a parking lot. Usually the cost varies from 1 to 3 EUR per hour.

As for the parking at night, the majority of hotels offer their guests paid and free guarded parkings. But if you decide to leave a car in a public zone for night, you have to switch on the parking lights according to the traffic rules. You can also park a car in round-the-clock parkings near the place you live.

Observe traffic rules driving a rented car in Corfu Island

Renting a car, you have to observe the traffic rules, as the fines in Greece are rather large. Pay close attention to the traffic signs, as standard speed limitations are not valid within the whole territory. Standard speed limitation within the inhabited areas is 50 km/h and 90 km/h beyond them. However, you can often see the traffic signs, which limit the speed by 30 or 40 km/h. Non-observance of speed limit leads to the fine from 40 up to 350 EUR.

Widely-spread violations are the absence of a child safety seat, not fastened seat belts, use of a cell phone while driving, disregarding of pedestrians, prohibited overtaking and also passing on prohibitory traffic signs. All these violations are penalized in the amount of 60 up to 700 EUR.

Fuel cost

There are a lot of filling stations in Corfu Island, so you will unlikely have any problems with fuel. Though remember that most of the filling stations are closed at 7 pm. An exception is big cities and their outskirts. To plan a budget for your trip, we recommend you to have a look at fuel prices in Greece. There is no leaded fuel in the country, that’s why you can fill a car with unleaded fuel (RON95 and RON98) and diesel engine. Prices:

  • 1 litre of RON95 petrol – 1,62 EUR
  • 1 litre of RON92 petrol - 1,84 EUR
  • 1 litre of diesel engine - 1,34 EUR

Note that most of the petrol stations in the country are opened till 7 pm. So if you are going to drive at night, see about the fuel in advance.
