Fines for the violations of road traffic regulations
It is not advised to violate the traffic regulations in Montenegro since the fines applied to offenders are the highest in Europe.

Not only do policemen follow the order on roads. Speed cameras and guns are installed everywhere, that is why your violations are unlikely to be unnoticed.
Speed limitation
The speed limitation in Montenegro is the same as in other European countries:
- The speed shall not be more than 50 km/h at any population center
- It is allowed to accelerate to not more than 80 km/h outside population centers
- The maximum speed allowed on express roads is 130 km/h
Do not forget to follow the road signs. Sometimes, the standard speed rate can change. Try not to go over the speed limit, whatever the circumstances are. Otherwise, you risk not only being fined but also sentenced to imprisonment.
Allowed blood alcohol level
The maximum blood alcohol level allowed in Montenegro is just 0.02 permille. That is why you are not recommended to risk and get behind the wheel after driving alcohol beverages. What is more, the punishment is extremely severe:
- In case the alcohol level is from 0.03 to 0.05 permille, the fine will be from 70 to 200 Euro.
- In case the blood alcohol level is from 0.05 to 1 permille, the fine can be up to 2000 Euro.
In case you have arranged an excellent celebration and your blood alcohol level is more than 1 permille, you risk being deprived of a driving license and sentenced to imprisonment for the term of up to two months.
Road traffic regulations in Montenegro
In Montenegro, the same traffic regulations as in Europe are in force. That is why a car renter is unlikely to face up with any problems. However, it is necessary to know a few peculiarities:
If you book a car for your family in Montenegro and are going to carry children less than 3 years of age, certainly warn the specialists about it on the stage of forming an application. According to the Montenegrin legislation, kids, who are younger than three, can be carried in special booster chairs only.
The road traffic regulations of Montenegro require the dim light to burn all the time, irrespective of the time of day, season and weather conditions.
Cost of fuel in the city of Tivat
In Montenegro, there are a large number of fuel stations, which offer fuel of perfect quality. You can fill your car with fuel at these stations without any fears. The prices are similar on the whole territory of the country:
- You will have to pay 1.35 Euro for one liter of fuel 95
- One liter of fuel 98 costs 1.38 Euro
- The price for one liter of diesel fuel is 1.27 Euro.
The majority of fuel stations in Montenegro are automated. Only credit cards are accepted for the payment. If you wish to fill your car with fuel for cash, you will have to find the station served by operators. It is not always simple.
