For Uganda, it is wise to book a hire car at least 2 to 4 weeks before your trip, especially for safaris or travel in peak seasons such as Christmas, Easter and July–September. 4x4 vehicles and cars with a driver-guide sell out quickly, so earlier booking gives you better choice, availability and rates.
Most Uganda rental companies release the security deposit within 7 to 14 days after you return the car, provided there is no new damage, fuel shortage or traffic fine. The excess is the maximum amount you must pay if the rental car is damaged or stolen. In Uganda it commonly ranges from about UGX 1,000,000 to UGX 4,000,000, depending on vehicle class.
