Basic traffic rules:
- Do not exceed standard or specific speed limits.
- Drink-driving is prohibited.
- From November to March, dipped headlights must be used during the daytime; at other times, use them when visibility is poor and in tunnels.
- Children under 12 may not ride in the front seat (they must be carried in the back seat using an appropriate child restraint system).
- Seat belts must be worn at all times.
- The use of a mobile device while driving is prohibited.
Allowable alcohol
The permissible blood alcohol level in the country is 0.0 ppm. This means that the consumption of alcohol before driving is strictly prohibited. Exceeding this limit may result in deprivation of the driver's licence for a period of 3 to 5 years, as well as additional penalties such as a fine or community service. The severity of the penalty depends on the seriousness of the offence, but the driver will in any case be deprived of their licence. The minimum and maximum fines range from 8000 to 13000 lei.
Parking: subtleties of car rental in Chisinau
