In Podgorica it is only permitted to drive after consuming alcohol if the blood alcohol level does not exceed the legal limit of 0.3 ‰.

• If the level exceeds 0.5 ‰, the driver faces a fine of €70-200.
• If the level is between 0.5-1.0 ‰, the vehicle owner will pay a fine of €300-2000.
• A level of 1.0 ‰ or more will cost the driver around €2,500, and a prison sentence of up to 2 months may also be imposed.

When driving on roads in Montenegro during the cold season without tyres equipped with anti-skid chains, the vehicle owner faces a fine of €60-150. If, in addition, there is snow or ice on the road, the amount increases to €80-300. Fitting studded tyres and driving on them in the country is strictly prohibited. When getting out of the vehicle, the driver must wear a reflective vest. Failure to do so will result in a fine of €20-50.

A fine of €150-1000 will be imposed on a vehicle owner who uses radar detectors while driving. Additional monetary penalties may apply for advertising such devices and, especially, for selling them. When transporting children in a child seat in the front of the car, a fine of €60-150 may be imposed. A motorist faces a fine of €40-100 for transporting children without a special device, such as a child seat. The use of seat belts is mandatory when travelling by car. Violation of this rule may result in a fine of up to €100.
