Car rental in Thessaloniki

When driving in the city, do not follow the example of local drivers, who very often break traffic rules, in particular speed limits:

• In the city you may drive at speeds up to 50 km/h;
• The maximum speed outside built-up areas is 90 km/h;
• The limit on main roads is 110 km/h;
• The limit on motorways is 130 km/h.

Thessaloniki follows international traffic rules, similar to other Greek cities:

• Children under 3 years old may only be carried in child car seats appropriate to their weight;
• It is forbidden to install devices in the vehicle that detect police equipment;
• The car must be equipped with a first-aid kit, warning triangle and fire extinguisher;
• It is not permitted to use a phone while driving, except with a hands-free headset.

Although the city has a sufficient number of car parks, it is not always easy to find a parking space. Near the most frequently visited parts of the city there are multi-storey car parks (for example, near the White Tower, on the waterfront, etc.). The easiest time to find a free space is on Saturdays, as there are far fewer cars on the streets then.

Pay attention to the markings on the kerbs:

• White – parking is allowed (free);
• Blue – parking is allowed (paid);
• Yellow – parking is forbidden.

Three types of fuel are available in Thessaloniki for vehicles: diesel, unleaded petrol and several brands of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Fuel prices:

• 1 litre of 100-octane petrol – 1.678 euros;
• 1 litre of 95-octane petrol – 1.557 euros;
• 1 litre of LPG – 0.754 euros;
• 1 litre of diesel – 1.254 euros.
