Parking for a car rented in London
One should park a car in the capital very carefully, as violation of the parking rules leads to large fines. Most of the parking lots are paid for the time spent. There are also such parking zones, where you should pay for time required in the pay machine in advance and place a ticket under the windscreen.
Also note the traffic marking. If you see two solid yellow or red lines, means that parking is forbidden here irrespective of the time of the day. If there is a single red line, means that there is a limit for parking in certain hours. The same means a single yellow line but these places are meant for public transport stops.
Entrance to the central part of London in working hours must be paid for and it costs £ 10. It can be paid in advance, at the very day or even the next day. But if pay it later, the sum increases to £ 12. Non-payment till the midnight of the next day leads to a fine in the amount of £ 130. Paid zone limits are marked by special signs.
Blood alcohol content allowed
Blood alcohol content must not exceed 0,8 ‰. Otherwise, the fine for this violation can be up to £ 5000 and drivers can even be arrested in some cases. Policemen are also authorized to test the drivers by their own to detect alcohol intoxication.
Driving regulations
The police of London strictly watch the traffic rules observance and punishment for their violation stipulates serious fines and driver's license confiscation. General rules to be observed:
- seatbelts for all the passengers
- child safety seat for children under 3 years old
- prohibition of using a cell phone while driving
- speed limitations
- parking rules observance
Some of these violations can seem insignificant and harmless but fines can reach up to £ 5000.
Fuel cost
There are a lot of filling stations in London and beyond it. An exception is the central part of the city. You can fill your car with RON95 or RON98 petrol or with diesel engine. Average prices for 1 litre of different kinds of fuel:
- 1 litre of RON95 petrol – 1,56 EUR
- 1 litre of RON98 petrol – 1,65 EUR
- 1 litre of diesel engine – 1,63 EUR
While planning your budget for travelling by a rented car, note the costs for fuel. It can influence the car to choose.
