Parking
There are paid and free parking lots in the island. It can be a challenging task to find a space in parking lots for free, especially at popular tourist season. However there are virtually no such problems with paid parking lots. To pay a parking space, you need to use a special pay machine. A parking hour cost depends on the location of a parking lot. Usually the cost varies from 1 to 3 EUR per hour.
As for the parking at night, the majority of hotels offer their guests paid and free guarded parkings. But if you decide to leave a car in a public zone for night, you have to switch on the parking lights according to the traffic rules. You can also park a car in round-the-clock parkings near the place you live.
Observe traffic rules driving a rented car in Corfu Island
Renting a car, you have to observe the traffic rules, as the fines in Greece are rather large. Pay close attention to the traffic signs, as standard speed limitations are not valid within the whole territory. Widely-spread violations are the absence of a child safety seat, not fastened seat belts, use of a cell phone while driving, disregarding of pedestrians, prohibited overtaking and also passing on prohibitory traffic signs. All these violations are penalized in the amount of 60 up to 700 EUR.
