Fines for violation of driving regulations
Irrespectively of the fact that the Netherlands associates with freedom, the traffic rules observance is controlled strictly and fines are rather large.

- beeping without cause – 90 EUR
- crossing of solid painted stripe – 220 EUR
- passing through the red traffic light – 220 EUR

Fines are imposed on-site. Have in mind that. Besides, if your car is parked wrong, it can be towed to auto impound without presence of the owner.
Speed limitation
There are the following speed limitations for cars in the Netherlands:
- 50 km/h for travelling within the inhabited area
- 80 km/h for travelling outside the inhabited area
- 100 km/h for highways
- 130 km/h for freeways
Note that it is prohibited to drive at speed less than 60 km/h. This violation leads to a fine in the amount of € 360. Speed limit violations are usually fixed with cameras.
Parking for a rented car in the Netherlands
It's forbidden to park near yellow road kerbs. If a car is not parked according to the rules, car's wheel can be blocked or a car can be towed to the auto impound. A fine in this case is 90 EUR. If a car is parked in the areas for the disabled, a fine is 360 EUR.
Parkings in the Netherlands are basically paid. Very popular are such parkings as P+R (Park+Ride), when drivers leave their cars at special parkings in uptown and then go to the centre of the city by public transport. It is created for relieving cities from great number of cars.
Blood alcohol concentration allowed
Blood alcohol concentration must not exceed 0.5 ‰. If this concentration is exceeded, a driver is imposed a fine from 350 to 750 EUR. In case blood alcohol concentration exceeds 1.30 ‰, the case is judged in court.
There is another limit for drivers with driving experience less than 5 years. Blood alcohol concentration must not exceed 0.2 ‰.
The rules are rather strict, however their observance is required for securing oneself from unpleasant situations.
Driving regulations
See some basic traffic rules in the Netherlands. It's not necessary to switch on the low beam at daytime. It has to be switched on, when visibility is low and insufficient. It is allowed to use rear fog lamps by fog or snow only. Violation of this rule leads to a serious fine. Children can go in a car in special child safety systems or seats only. Toll roads
There is no charge for passing the roads in the Netherlands. However, passing through some tunnels is not free of charge.
Cost for passing the Westerschelde tunnel for cars is 5 EUR. One can pay with cash and a credit card. Pay point is located on the north.
Passing trough the Kiltunnel tunnel costs 2 EUR per car.
