| Speeding violation | From 50 to 150 Euro |
| Driving through a red light | 130 Euro |
| Overtaking on the wrong side | 100 Euro |
| Not wearing a seat belt | 60 Euro |
| Illegal parking | From 50 Euro |
Speed limitation
In Croatia, both the police and automatic speed cameras strictly enforce the speed limit. Try not to exceed it under any circumstances. Otherwise, you will inevitably be fined. Speeding in Zagreb never goes unpunished.
- Within cities, the speed must not exceed 50 km/h.
- Outside built-up areas, the maximum permitted speed is 90 km/h.
- The maximum permitted speed on motorways is 130 km/h.
- When driving through a tunnel, the speed must not be more than 80 km/h.
Please follow the road signs carefully at all times. In some situations, the above-mentioned speed limits may change.
Parking lots in Zagreb
There are three types of parking spaces in Zagreb:
- You are not allowed to leave your car for more than one hour in red parking zones.
- You are not allowed to leave your car for more than two hours in yellow parking zones.
- You may park for up to three hours in green parking zones.
You must pay for parking. Purchase a parking voucher from a ticket machine and place it under the windscreen of your car so that it is clearly visible.
Blood alcohol limit
If you decide to drive a rental car in Zagreb after drinking alcoholic beverages, you should carefully assess your condition. The maximum blood alcohol limit is 0.05 per mille. This is not very much, roughly equivalent to a single bottle of beer. Therefore, if you have any doubts, do not drive. Otherwise, you may receive a large fine or lose your driving licence.
Road traffic regulations in Zagreb
Traffic regulations in Zagreb do not differ from those in other European countries. Therefore, you should not have problems when driving. However, there are a few particular rules to keep in mind:
- Dipped headlights
From the last Sunday in October until the last Sunday in March, dipped headlights must be switched on at all times while the car is moving, regardless of the time of day. In summer, this requirement applies only if visibility is poor or when driving through a tunnel.
Cost of fuel in Zagreb
Only unleaded 95 and 98 fuel, as well as diesel, can be purchased at fuel stations in Zagreb. There are plenty of fuel stations both within and outside the city. Fuel prices in Croatia are typical for Europe:
- The cost of one litre of 95 fuel is 1.34 Euro.
- The price of one litre of 98 fuel is 1.38 Euro.
- One litre of diesel costs 1.28 Euro.
You may transport no more than 10 litres of petrol or diesel in a can.
