Rules of the road for cars rented in Sofia
- When driving on the roads of Sofia, the driver and passengers are required to wear seat belts. Violation of this rule carries a penalty of 50 BNG.
- The same amount must be paid to a traffic police officer if the driver uses a mobile phone while driving.
- In Sofia, it is prohibited by law to reduce visibility with heavily tinted car windows.
- All vehicles must be fitted with rear-view mirrors on both sides. Otherwise, the driver will pay a fine of 20 BNG.
- If the car rented in Sofia is carrying a child, the vehicle must be equipped with a special child restraint system that securely fastens the child in the seat.
- The law permits the carriage of children under 3 years of age in the front seat if the front airbag is deactivated.
- It is forbidden for children shorter than 1.5 m and under 12 years of age to travel in the front seat of the car. They must travel in the rear seat of the car in a specially designed child seat appropriate for their age and weight. Failure to comply with the above rules carries a fine of 50 BNG.
