Speed limits in Tenerife
- The speed should not exceed 60 km/h in the built-up areas;
- Outside the built-up areas it is permitted to make 90 km/h or 100 km/h upon availability of the appropriate sign;
- On the motorways it is allowed to drive at a speed of 120 km/h.
Parking of a hired car in Tenerife
The best way to park your car in Tenerife is to use the service of parking zones, which are located almost in every built-up area of the island, both fee-based and free of charge. There are also underground parking stations, and a one week parking fee will cost you about 10 Euro.
On even days you are allowed to park a car at the street side with even-numbered houses and buildings. Accordingly, on odd days all actions must be carried out strictly vice versa.
Parking in Tenerife is forbidden in the following cases:
- Under the «No Parking» sign, which should additional display the handling time, and the road should have white stripping. Besides, parking is allowed only at the time period different from the one shown on the sign;
- Near the «VADO» inscription;
- Near the kerb with one or two yellow stripes on it;
Illegal parking can result in a costly fine and a car evacuation to the penalty parking zone.
Admissible alcohol limit
In case your car has been stopped by the Highway Patrol for the purposes of making you pass a blood alcohol content test, we strongly recommend to be tested regardless of whether you have consumed alcohol or not. Otherwise, it will be considered a criminal offense, and you will inevitably experience the unpleasant consequences.
For the motorists with the driving experience less than 2 years, the admissible blood alcohol limit equals to 0,3%, and or those drivers who operate a car for more than 2 years, the permissible level comprises 0,5%.
Traffic regulations in Tenerife
There are not so many significant differences between the traffic regulations in Tenerife and Russia, nevertheless, some of the Spanish road signs and driving peculiarities will seem uncustomary for Russian tourists. So, it would be a good idea to remember all speed limitations assigned for different rod types.
Any car should be equipped with a special sign of national identity, as well as an advance-warning triangle. Children under the age of 12 years are not allowed to occupy the front car seat. All passengers should use safety belts in accordance with the traffic regulations. All over the territory of Tenerife drivers should yield to the right. At pedestrian crosses it is obligatory to give way for all pedestrians. They have already got used to the fact that all Spanish drivers strictly follow the traffic rules and stop at all crosses, so Spanish pedestrian do not consider it necessary to look at the road while crossing it. Rite side overtaking is also forbidden.
At a roundabout zone, where there are no road signs, the car that first enters the rotary motion should be yielded by the others. According to the traffic regulations it is forbidden to use a buzzer within the city, thus all the actions should be accompanied solely by flashing lights.
